It is my custom prior to a scheduled shoot date, to walk through the site reviewing light readings and take pre-test shots with the client. At this time... we can evaluate the desires of the client as well as note any requirements that might better prepare the areas for photography. Specifically, such items as foliage, lawn care, lights, vechicles, windows, sensitive areas and repairs that may be needed. This preliminary visit also allows me to consider the lighting problems that I may encounter on the shoot and predict at what hour each shot should take place. If an advance visit is impossible, the client and myself should discuss the job in detail. I will ask many questions about the site covering areas such as building style, age, and light direction, quality of light, windows, stories and size of complex. Whether or not an area will be photographed during the day or night is of prime concern. If it is not possible to do a preliminary walk through, the client must evaluate each setup with the above questions in mind.

SOME CONCERNS DURING A SHOOT ... Security should be arranged for during and after business hours. All areas to be photographed should be cleaned and the landscaping completed prior to photography. All lighting fixtures should be properly functioning. Different lighting units should contain the correct tube type. In the event that vehicles need to be moved, someone with knowledge of the parking arrangements needs to be on site. In addition, someone with knowledge of the electrical control system should be present during the shoot. Bathrooms should also be accessible.

Architectectural photography is always a demanding assignment. I have attempted to outline my needs in terms broad enough to cover most situations. Even with all the preparations that are done, something may happen that the client and myself need to control and correct, so that the session goes smoothly. The end result will be a superior shoot showing all the shots that were planned and designed with the client's individual needs in mind.
